Getting back to the Philippines was great... (and hot!!) ...and it was wonderful to see friends and co-workers after 5 years. Re-acclimating to the tropics was certainly harder than seeing people and going back to CCF (Christ's Commission Fellowship,) where we worship when we're in Manila.
Flying down to Palawan was even better. People asked what it was like coming back here. Well, it's home. Home (San Diego) is home, too, but remember we've spend the bulk of our adult lives here, raised our kids here, learned two languages here, and spent over 20 years building relationships among the Palawanos. So while we left much behind to return here, we also had the corresponding anticipation of going "home." Leaving home to go home... what a concept. There's probably a spiritual lesson in there, somwhere (usually is, huh?) Maybe it's related to "this world is not our home." Someday we'll leave this home to get "home" to a place we've never been, but finally in the presence of the One we've loved from afar. Our spirits will be "home" at last.
